USA TODAY’s summer reading program is designed to be used with any issue of USA TODAY. It was developed specifically for struggling readers who need additional support in literacy skills, including reading comprehension, vocabulary building and higher-order thinking. Each of the eight lessons uses research-based reading strategies to guide students through reading, understanding and evaluating the information found in USA TODAY’s articles.
1. Components
8 lessons, approximately 90 minutes each, on one CD. Each lesson includes a student and a teacher edition. The teacher editions provide lesson details, objectives, time requirements, benchmarks, extension activities and pedagogy for each lesson. For multi-school or district sales, professional development is included.
