Write the names of the five senses — sight, smell, hearing, taste and touch — across the top of five pieces of paper. Then, look through USA TODAY and find words or pictures that go with each of the five senses. Cut out the word or picture and paste it on the appropriate sheet of paper.

Draw an outline of a floorplan on a large sheet of paper. Be sure to include a kitchen, family room, bathroom and bedroom. Look through the paper and cut out five words and/or pictures of items that might be found in each room. Paste the words and pictures in the correct room on your paper.

Label four sheets of paper blue, green, red and purple. (Or, find paper in each color.) Write the following words on each sheet: blue-news; green-money; red-sports; purple-life. Cut out interesting pictures, headlines and articles from each section and paste them on the appropriate sheet. Discuss each item.

Help a younger student or sibling do this activity: Using sheets of construction paper, cut out 26 circles and paste the ends of them together to form a chain. Write one letter of the alphabet at the top of each piece of paper. Find a picture in USA TODAY that begins with that letter, and paste it on the corresponding sheet. Write the name of the object below the picture.
