The 2010 Census has come to a close, and some of the preliminary results are now becoming public. USATODAY.com features complete Census coverage, including a searchable database broken down by state or county. This database will be updated daily, so check back often.

Find your community’s Census participation rate on the database. Then, read through USA TODAY to find an article on a social issue that you feel is important to your area. With a partner, read the article and note 10 facts from the article that are relevant to your community. Next, work together to create a two-minute news report that summarizes the topic you read about, outlines why the issue is important to your community, and explains the importance of the Census in  improving the situation locally. You may record your performance to share with the class, or share it live.
