Many highly contested Senate races are taking place this fall in anticipation of the November 2 elections. Tensions are running high between Democrat and Republican based Tea Party candidates. According to USA TODAY’s October 21 cover story, Nevada’s Senate showdown encompasses all of the elements of the greater battle between the two camps.

 

In groups of four or five, form a political party that focuses on the needs of students. Create a platform (statement of beliefs) for your party. With your group members, read the cover story “Winner takes all?”. Using information from the article and any other sources at your disposal, make three lists that identify the platforms of the Republican, Democrat, and Tea Party parties. As a group decide which party most closely supports your party’s platform.
