The BP oil spill in the Gulf has been in the news for weeks now. We’ve learned that the drill pipe that is leaking is only 6.625-inches in diameter, that the estimate of the daily spill has risen from 800,000 gallons of oil a day to up to 2.5 million gallons a day. President Obama and the federal government are playing a more active role in monitoring the situation and holding people accountable. And last week the BP chairman, Carl-Henric Sanberg, apologized, saying, “I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to the American people on behalf of all the employees in BP. . . . We hope that over long term that we will regain the trust that you have in us.” Find and read an article on the Gulf oil spill story. What new information is being reported this week? Sandberg has many people advising him on how to address this crisis with the public. Adopt the role of one of Sandberg’s public relations advisor. Based on the new information that has come to light this week, how would you advise him to address it with the following three audiences: internal employees, the federal government and the American people.
